About Mathura-Vrindavan - Land of Lord Krishna

Mathura is the birthplace of Lord Krishna, and Vrindavan is where he spent his childhood performing divine leelas (pastimes). These twin sacred cities are among the most important pilgrimage sites for devotees of Krishna.

Mathura, located on the banks of the Yamuna River, is mentioned in ancient scriptures as the capital of the Surasena Kingdom. According to Hindu belief, Krishna was born here in a prison cell where his maternal uncle, the tyrant King Kansa, had imprisoned his parents Devaki and Vasudeva.

Vrindavan, just 15 km from Mathura, is the divine playground where young Krishna performed his childhood leelas - from stealing butter (makhan chor) to playing the flute and dancing with gopis. The area is dotted with over 5,000 temples, each narrating stories from Krishna's life. The region celebrates festivals with unmatched devotion, especially Holi and Janmashtami.
